Available Treatments

  • Acupuncture:  The insertion of very fine needles into specific points measured on the body to stimulate energy and the bodies ability to heal.  Please refer to Information for New Patients.

  • Acupressure: As above but without the use of needles. Some people can be sensitive to treatment and respond to a gentle pressure of the point instead.  Or it can used in combination, resulting in the use of less needles.

  • Moxibustion: is a heat treatment which can be used independent or alongside acupuncture according to individual need. It is made from the herb Mugwort into Moxa and is a common Chinese and Japanese therapy.  I personally use smokeless moxa which I apply to the end of the needles so that the heat conducts down the shaft and into the point. Alternatively I use indirect moxibustion in which one end of a moxa stick is lit and held and inch or two away from the skin usually around the inserted needles to bring mild warmth and a pleasant sensation.  Many people describe the sensation as a ray of sunshine on the treated area and find it to be a particularly relaxing and comforting experience.

  • Ear Acupuncture:  The ear is commonly seen in shape as an inverted foetus.  The lobe represents the head, leading to the spine, and the skin closer to the ear hole homes the internal organs.  Have a look you'll be amazed!  As a result, there are hundreds of ear acupuncture points that can be used instead of body points.  This is particularly useful if an area is inaccessible or sensitive to needle.

  • Ear Acupressure Seeds:  As above but a small plaster holding a seed (in this case a tiny tourmaline stone) can be affixed to said ear point and retained for a few days thus continuing treatment outside of clinic.

  • Cupping Massage: A type of massage that uses suction as oppose to pressure.  This lifts the tissue, drawing toxins and stagnant blood to the surface and allows fresh blood to flow into the muscles beneath.  If the area treated is particularly blocked then some bruising may result.  In this case the bruise is not from physical damage but rather from old toxins trapped within the area being released This alleviates pain and improves mobility.
