FAQ's
Does it hurt?
The insertion of needles is generally pain free. A patient may
feel either a dull ache sensation or tingle which then instantly
diminishes. If you are particularly sensitive to the needles
then thinner needles can be used to minimize any discomfort.
It is not the intention to cause pain, but to improve your health
and well being.
How many Treatments would I need?
This depends on what you are receiving treatment for, how long
you had the complaint and your general lifestyle as an influencing
factor. As a general rule the longer you have had a problem
the longer it takes to clear or alleviate. However, a difference
in symptoms should be apparent within about 6 weeks of weekly
treatment, when your case will be reviewed.
How long do the needles stay in for?
There are many different disciplines of acupuncture, some remove
the needles as soon as they have been put in. I retain the needles
for approximately 20 minutes so that a treatment including consultation
and, if needed massage, will last between 45 minutes to an hour.
I am taking medication can I also have acupuncture?
Absolutely!! Acupuncture is a complementary therapy, and is
frequently used alongside conventional medicine. Many patients
seek treatment so they can reduce the level of medication they
are taking. However, it is useful to inform your Doctor that
you are receiving treatment for their case records.
Will I need to undress for a treatment?
Again this depends on what you are receiving treatment for.
If you are uncomfortable undressing then you can wear loose,
baggy clothing which can be easily rolled up, so that the appropriate
points can be located.
